Lanterns and Candles

I have long been fascinated by candles, lanterns, and lamplight. I have a small and growing collection of lanterns. I brought home my very first one when I was 5 years old; it was a prize I won in a game of bingo while visiting a lodge in northern Ontario one Thanksgiving weekend. It was magical.

Like moths to a flame (ha ha), I’m especially attracted to narrative paintings that use candlelight to light a scene, frame the action, and impose a mood.
